Long Ago Yukon will host the second in its 2016-17 SKYPE Speaker Seies at the Beringia Centre this coming Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m.
Monica Bugbee from the Mammoth Hot Springs site in South Dakota will talk on the ‘Pygmy mammoths of the California Channel Islands’. Ms Bugbee and a team from Mammoth Hot Springs lead an excavation this past summer on Santa Rosa Island of Santa Barbara, California. Their work yielded a unique mammoth specimen which places their mammoth on the island at about the same time as the Arlington Man believed to be the oldest human remains in North America. This find raises many interesting questions on the evolution and ultimate fate of the last of North America’s mammoths.
Please join Long Ago Yukon at the Beringia Centre for this free event.
